General information
The LMS Home page is the first page the user sees after logging in, by default. You can also access this page by clicking the Home icon () in the JoomLMS top menu. All the elements displayed here are only from the courses where a user is either enrolled as a Student or administers as a Teacher/LMS administrator. If you don't administer/haven't created any courses yet, the page will be empty.
Main page elements
There are five default tabs in the LMS Home page:
- My Courses: displays only the courses into which the user is enrolled as a Student or administers as a Teacher.
- Announcements: displays active announcements from all the courses in which the user is either a Student or a Teacher.
- Assignments: displays available (non-expired) homework assignments from all the courses in which the user is either a Student or a Teacher.
- MailBox: displays all unread messages from the internal course Mailbox from all the courses in which the user is either a Student or a Teacher.
- Certificates: displays all quiz and course certificates received by the user in all the courses in which the user is either a Student or a Teacher.
Note: The number next to the tab is the current number of elements displayed there. The total number of elements allowed per tab can be changed, see Administrator documentation > Appearance.
Tip: The default page for JoomLMS can be changed at the back-end Menus > Main menu (or another menu where JoomLMS is added on your site). To change the default page, edit the JoomLMS menu item and then change the Menu Type accordingly.
For more details on managing the tabs and other LMS Home page settings, see Administrator documentation - Appearance.
My Courses tab
There are some additional options available in the My Courses tab. On the left there are two buttons:
- The Create a new course button allows to add new courses via a 5-step course builder. For more details on creating a new course, see Course Builder.
- The Import button allows to create a new course out of a previously exported JoomLMS course or a course template. For more details on importing a course, see Course Import. For more details on creating a course out of a course template see Course Templates.
Note: Only courses exported from JoomLMS can be imported using the Import button at the LMS Home page. You can import other types of course modules compatible with JoomLMS (SCORM, AICC, LTI) in the Learning Paths section of a respective course, see Learning Paths for more information.
On the right in the My Courses tab, you can find the View switch and the Categories drop-down menu:
- The View switch allows you to select the layout for the courses in the My Courses tab. It is available for Students as well.
- The List view displays the courses as a list with smaller course logo images and the Open Course button next to each course. For the courses that have been completed the View my certificate button is also displayed.
- The Grid view displays the courses as larger tiles in a grid. If you hover the cursor over a course the course logo blurs and you can see the Open Course button. For the courses that have been completed the View my certificate button is also displayed.
- The Categories drop-down menu displays All categories by default which means the courses from all course categories are displayed. You can select a different course category or subcategory to only display the courses from that category or subcategory in the My Courses tab.
Note: The selected view and category is saved by the system and the My Courses tab will be displayed with these options pre-selected even if you log out and then log in again.
Course management options
In the Grid view, in the top right corner of the course tile you can see the following options:
- The Published/Unpublished switch - click the switch to publish or unpublish the course. The switch icon shows the course current publishing status. When the course is published, Students will be able to see the course and access it. When the course is unpublished only the course author and LMS administrators/assigned Teachers can see it.
- The course management drop-down menu includes three options:
- Edit: click this option to go to the course settings. For more information on course settings, see Course Builder.
- Delete: click this option to go to the course deletion page. If you confirm course deletion there, the course will be removed from the system.
Warning: The course is deleted from the database completely, with all the course materials and users' progress information, and it is impossible to restore it afterwards (unless you restore the whole site from a server backup).
- Export: click this option to go to the course export page. You will be able to determine which course sections to include in the zipped package upon the course export. The exported course can only be imported back into JoomLMS itself, for more information, see Course Import.
In the List view, next to the course logo on the right, and in the Grid view, if you hover the cursor over the course tile, you can also see two more buttons:
- The Open Course button redirects you to the Course Home page (the first page of the course).
- The View my certificate button redirects LMS administrators and Course Teachers to the Gradebook section of the course and Students to their personal Gradebook page where the course certificate can be printed out.
